Parade Brings Holiday Cheer, Santa to Northville

The streets of downtown Northville were full of holiday cheer Friday night as crowds gathered to watch the annual Holiday Lighted Parade, featuring the Northville High School Marching Band, colorful holiday floats, decorated cars and festively costumed groups. The guest of honor was, of course, Santa Claus. Santa was presented with an honorary key to the city by Mayor Christopher Johnson just before the two lighted the tree in Town Square.

In Brief: Utopia Salon, Kid Rock Among Holiday Donors to Northville Non-Profit

Utopia Salon donated thousands of dollars in toys, clothes and other goods to students at Detroit schools through the non-profit Bridgepointe.

Utopia Salon & Spa on Main Street bought wish list items for 21 students in Detroit for Christmas. "We always do something like that during the holidays and we want to help people and our area," said owner Tita Taskal, who owns the salon with Kelly Sesi. The owners spent $1600, she said, on six kids. Several of the salon's employees spent hundreds each to complete the rest of the childrens' wish lists. "I was surprised what they did," Taskal said of her staff. "They went over and above of what they could afford to buy the children. (The children) only asked for tops, pants, shoes. And some people bought coats, underwear, socks, everything...toys, anything to make that child feel special." The wish lists were distributed through the …
