Synchronized Skate Clubs to Compete at U.S. Championships in Plymouth

2 locally based Allegro! synchronized skate teams to compete at U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships at Compuware Arena.

High-level competition isn't just for kids anymore. Two Allegro! synchronized skating teams made up of adults ages 21-60 will compete this week at the 2013 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships at Compuware Arena in Plymouth Township, according to a news release from the club. From Feb. 27-March 2, the Plymouth venue will see teams of all ages from around the United States competing for the top spots in their respective divisions. Looking to regain the national title, the 2012 National silver medalists Allegro! Masters Team skates to "Dance of the Vampires." Passion Pit, Matt & Kim Coming to Plymouth's Compuware Arena

Indie bands to take stage Feb. 21 at Plymouth Township venue.

Pontiac-based concert promoters Crofoot have announced rock artists Passion Pit will headline a Feb. 21 concert at Plymouth Township's Compuware Arena, with special guests Matt & Kim.   Passion Pit are a critically acclaimed band perhaps best known for their hit single "Take a Walk," a song currently used in Taco Bell's Doritos Locos Tacos commercials. The band also was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on Oct. 13, 2012. The band's latest album, Gossamer, was released July 20, 2012, on Frenchkiss/Columbia Records. Matt & Kim's latest album, Lightning, was released Oct. 2, 2012, on FADER Label, which features the single "Let's Go."

Red Wings Name Henrik Zetterberg Captain Before Scrimmage in Plymouth

Wings name new captain Tuesday after 2012 retirement of Nicklas Lidstrom.

When Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg was awarded the "C" as team captain Tuesday, the significance of being a captain in Detroit wasn't lost on the star. Zetterberg, whose promotion was announced at a news conferences at Compuware Arena in Plymouth Township ahead of the Red Wings' "Red vs. White" scrimmage, follows two beloved captains in Nicklas Lidstrom, who retired in 2012, and longtime leader Steve Yzerman, who served from 1986 until his retirement in 2006. "It is a true honor to be named captain of the Detroit Red Wings," Zetterberg said. Red Wings Invite Fans to Practice, Red vs. White Game in Plymouth

Team to practice, play scrimmage at Compuware Arena in Plymouth.

The Detroit Red Wings are offering fans a chance to see the team prepare for its lockout-shortened 2013 NHL season in Plymouth today. The team hits the ice at 9:30 a.m. today at Compuware Arena in Plymouth for practice, and will hold a "Red vs. White" game later that evening, beginning at 6 p.m. Both are events are open to the public with free admission. The Red vs. White contest also will be carried live by both Fox Sports Detroit, with Ken Daniels, Mickey Redmond and Larry Murphy calling the shots, and on 1270 AM with Ken Kal and Paul Woods. Doors for each event open one hour before the start time. Compuware Arena is located at 14900 Beck Road in Plymouth.

Red Wings Alumni to Play Hockey for O'Rourke Charity

Tickets are still available for Dec. 21 charity game at Plymouth’s Compuware Arena.

Red and blue may not be Christmas colors, but the two will face off in the spirit of the season to raise funds for the family of fallen West Bloomfield Police Department Officer Patrick O'Rourke. The Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association and the Joe Kocur Foundation for Children will hit the ice at Compuware Arena in Plymouth Dec. 21 to play a charity hockey game, the proceeds of which will be donated to the O'Rourke Family Trust. O'Rourke, 39, was fatally shot Sept. 9 while responding with other officers to what police believed could have been a suicidal man. The incident sparked a barricaded gunman standoff that ended when police found the suspect, Ricky Coley, 50, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. O'Rourke was the department's …

Compuware Arena Drive-In in Plymouth Opens This Weekend

The Avengers, Battleship among blockbuster films screening this weekend at drive-in.

As spring moves quickly into summer, the Compuware Arena Drive-In Movie Theatres starts another season with a two-day opening this Friday and Saturday. The drive-in – located at 14900 Beck Road in Plymouth Township – will continue with another three-day weekend May 25-27 before going to a seven-day-a-week operation June 8 through September 2. The movies showing this Friday and Saturday include: SCREEN 1: Dr. Seuss' The Lorax (PG), with The Three Stooges (PG). SCREEN 2: The Avengers (PG-13), with John Carter (PG-13). SCREEN 3: Battleship (PG-13), with This Means War (PG-13). Whalers Move CHL Import Selection For Future Picks

With two good Import players already on the roster and ready to play next season, the Whalers used today’s 2011 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft to acquire two future draft choices. Mike Vellucci, the Plymouth Whalers' president, general manager and head coach, traded the Whalers’ first pick and 31st overall in today’s Canadian Hockey League Import Draft to Erie.  In exchange, Plymouth receives at seventh-round selection in the 2012 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection and a fifth-round pick in the 2014 OHL Draft. The Whalers will pass on their second selection (91st overall) in today’s CHL Import Draft.
