The outdoor patio has three new fire places.
The good weather is finally here and that means it's time for outdoor dining in Northville. The Northville Sports Den opened its renovated outdoor patio about three weeks ago and it's been filling up ever since. The biggest new addition to the patio are the three fire places. "We wanted to give people a place to wait," said Jamie Morse, event coordinator at the Sports Den. Patio diners can rest on benches along the new stone wall to gather around the fire places. They can also sit back and watch the games on two wall-mounted flat screen televisions. She said the original patio improvement plans included saving the three trees. However, new trees had to be planted in their place. "A lot of people were upset about the trees. We were upset, …

The downtown Northville store's grand re-opening is Friday.
Mother-daughter team Margaret “Peggy” Stoe and Jennifer "Jenn" Grochowski are excited to re-open trendy decor shop Pear-aphernalia to the Northville community. Grochowski said she and her mother fell in love with the store and were loyal patrons for 10 years. Previous owners Pat Stempien and Lori Finnegan, who ran the store for 12 years, put up a sign saying it was closing more than a month ago. "When we heard they were closing, we came in to thank them," she said. "Then we saw it was for sale and that day we asked for an appointment." Pear-aphernalia's grand re-opening is 10 a.m. Friday. There will be refreshments like coffee and lemonade throughout the day, and the store will be open until 8 p.m. to participate in Northville's First …

The majority of the project was paid for by Northville's Downtown Development Authority, and funding did not come from residential taxes.
The two-story covered walkway, also known as the Comerica Community Connection, that connects Main Street near Comerica Bank to the Marquis Parking Lot opened recently in downtown Northville. However, the project is not fully complete. The plans include a plaza at the back end near the parking lot. "We're hoping in the next three to four weeks the construction will start on it," said Lori Ward, Northville Downtown Development Authority (DDA) director. She said the project is planned in coordination with a parking lot resurfacing project, so construction should take about four to six weeks. Since the project is not complete, Ward said there is not a final total for its cost. "The original contract amount was $697,000 dollars," she said. "…

The downtown walkway project is about a year late from its expected completion date.
The two-story covered walkway connecting Main Street near Comerica Bank to the Marquis Parking Lot is officially open to pedestrians. "I personally think it's great. It was so annoying to have [to] walk through stores or all the way around the block to get to Main Street," said reader Jessica Bacon Beamgard on Northville Patch's Facebook page. Plans for the covered walkway, officially called the Comerica Community Connection, go back to 2006 when it was identified in that year's Downtown Strategic Plan as a way to improve pedestrian access to the heart of downtown Northville. Jennifer Carr-Strong said on Facebook that the walkway is nice but took too long to build. The project was expected to be completed by April 2012. Although it's a …

A resident shares his ideas for developing downtown.
Thursday, December 6, 2012
Several Northville Patch readers say the restaurant's contribution to the downtown business community outweighs parking problems.
Two Northville residents who live on High Street spoke to Northville City Council Monday about a traffic and parking hazard on their streets from patrons of the newly opened Garage Grill & Fuel Bar. The story on Patch generated a lot of buzz among readers. "The restaurant is in downtown and so are the people that live on High Street," Terri commented on the story. "If you would like a quiet street move out on Main Street past Clement." Carol Maynard said she agrees with Terri and that Northville needs to welcome new businesses to its downtown like Plymouth unless it wants to be a ghost town. "I love walking in town seeing more business in this economy. You bought the house next to businesses so deal with it or move," said commenter …
