Catholic Central Falls in State Hockey Final

Brighton defeats Shamrocks 2-1 in Division 1 state championship game.

Detroit Catholic Central lost to Brighton High School in the Division 1 hockey state championship game Saturday at Compuware. Michael Yuhasz scored a goal and assisted on another for Brighton, which won the title for the second straight year. Lucas Morgan also had a goal and an assist, and Daniel Bosio had an assist for the Bulldogs. Carson Gatt scored for Catholic Central (22-8 overall record). Brighton defeated Grosse Pointe North 4-3 to win last year's state championship game. The Shamrocks have won seven state titles since 2000, most recently in 2010, according to the MHSAA website. West Baseball All-Stars Win 16-6 Over East at Comerica Park

An eight-run sixth inning helps West team to take bragging rights in the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game for a second straight year Tuesday night.

DETROIT – The West All-Stars earned bragging rights over the East at the annual Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association (MHSBCA) All-Star game for a second year in a row at Comerica Park on Tuesday night. The West erased an early 4-2 deficit with five runs in the third inning and then blew the game open with an eight-run sixth. The West side batted around the order in the inning to take a commanding 16-6 lead. Its bullpen held the East scoreless in the final three innings to close out the victory. “It wasn’t how we drew it up,” East All-Stars and Birmingham Groves High School coach Jim Crosby said, laughing. “They had that one big inning that killed us. Northville's Zanotti Wraps Up Golf Finals

Mustangs standout finishes Division 1 state finals with a final-round score of 88.

He may have fallen short of winning the Division 1 finalist title—that honor belongs to North Farmington's Max Kollin (144) this season—but Northville's Nick Zanotti can hold his head high after a solid performance at the Division 1 boys golf state finals June 17-18 at Katke-Cousins Golf Course. Zanotti finished the two day event with a combined score of 179 (91-88).
