Red Wings Coach Mike Babcock and General Manager Ken Holland raised $13,000 from donors in Northville.
Several former and current Detroit Red Wings rang the bell for The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign Tuesday, raising a total of $24,438.69. In a friendly competition between four duos of Red Wings personnel, Coach Mike Babcock and Executive Vice President and General Manager Ken Holland successfully defended their bell ringing title by raising $13,462 for the nonprofit, which included an anonymous $5,000 donation. While the current NHL lockout between owners and players has jeopardized the 2012-13 NHL season, Novi hockey fans still can see some of their favorite Detroit Red Wings in action. Red Wings coach Mike Babcock will join Executive Vice President and General Manager Ken Holland will appear Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Hiller’s Market in Northville from 4:30–6:30 p.m. to raise money for the Salvation Army. Holland is serving as Honorary Chairman of the 2012 Red Kettle Campaign for the seventh straight year. Hiller's Market and Hollywood Market are teaming up with hunger relief agencies to help feed more than 300,000 children healthy meals this summer.
Local grocery stores want to make sure the 300,000 southeast Michigan schoolchildren who receive free or reduced-fee lunches during the school year don’t go hungry this summer. With the launch of the 10-week Hunger Free Summer campaign, Gleaners Food Bank and Forgotten Harvest are trying to provide an additional 2 million meals to children this summer. Every dollar raised during the summer campaign translates into eight nutritious meals for a child. The agencies have teamed up with Hiller’s Market and Hollywood Super Markets to raise funds and awareness about their summer program.
