Light Up the Holidays Without Dimming Cheer

If your holiday lights are staying up for a few more weeks, check out these tips. A Home Depot lighting technician gives four little tips for big energy savings.

Holiday lights can brighten up a neighborhood, but they can also ratchet up quite an energy bill.  Lee Halliwell, who works at Northville's Home Depot as a master electrical designer, has four big tips that he says will significantly shave down your light bill not only during the holidays but year-round. "If you follow these tips, you'll notice a big drop in your monthly bill."  Halliwell said. "I'm talking about hundreds, even thousands of dollars a year." Halliwell's tips: 1. Switch to LED light bulbs to TV screens. 2. Use Compact fluorescent light bulbs or CFLs. These not only cut energy costs but last much longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. 3.
