In Brief: Bill to Sell Robert Scott Correctional Facility Headed for Senate Floor

Highlights from Thursday night's Northville Township trustees meeting.

State Rep. Kurt Heise (R-Plymouth) told the Northville Township board of trustees Thursday night that his sponsored House Bill 4689 – which will allow for the state to sell the Robert Scott Correctional Facility – has moved through a Senate committee. It is due for a vote in the Senate, possibly as soon as next week. A new subcommittee will form in Northville Township to evaluate non-motorized pathways. At the township's meeting Thursday night, there was some discussion about whether the subcommittee's goal should be to first repair existing pathways or to plan for new ones. I really hope the Scott Correctional Center is sold. It has always been an eye sore both when it was operational as well as vacant. Not sure what year it was built but I suspect there was very little out here, when that happened.   more ›

UPDATED: Mark Abbo, Northville Township Supervisor, Won't Seek Re-Election

Township trustee and supervisor candidate Christopher Roosen thanked Abbo for his service.

Northville Township Supervisor Mark Abbo will not be seeking re-election in the fall. "After all this time, I think we’ve built a great community and I think I’m most proud of that," Abbo said in a phone interview. "I’ve enjoyed the tenure and I’m sure I will miss it." The reason Abbo gave for his retirement from the board of trustees is that "it's time to pass the torch." He added that he plans to pursue other personal and business interests and that he feels he will be leaving the township with "a solid foundation for moving forward." In the past year alone, Abbo led the board which sought and received an Environmental Protection Agency grant for clean-up of the Seven Mile property, the former state psychiatric hospital. Although many will not agree; looking back over the last 20 years of Supervisors Abbo’s Public Career I can only walk away appreciating his leadership and accomplishments in, and for, Northville Township. Area politicians could learn a great deal from his tenure.
