The streets of downtown Northville were full of holiday cheer Friday night as crowds gathered to watch the annual Holiday Lighted Parade, featuring the Northville High School Marching Band, colorful holiday floats, decorated cars and festively costumed groups. The guest of honor was, of course, Santa Claus. Santa was presented with an honorary key to the city by Mayor Christopher Johnson just before the two lighted the tree in Town Square.
President Obama will be at the Detroit Labor Day parade downtown on Monday. The Michigan Democratic Party will give away tickets to the event Saturday.

The annual Detroit Labor Day parade starts 9 a.m. Monday at the Building Trades at Michigan and Trumbull or the AFL-CIO at 9:30 at Mack and Woodward. The president will speak at 1 p.m. just east of the Renaissance Center downtown. Aretha Franklin will sing before his speech. The event is free and open to the public. Gates open at 10 am and the event is general admission. Tickets will be handed out from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, or until tickets run out, at the Oakland County Democratic Party 91 N.
