What qualities do you want in a new Silver Springs Principal?
Following the announcement of former Silver Springs Elementary School principal Scott Snyder's resignation last week, the Northville school district has posted the job for his position. Snyder resigned his position to pursue other career opportunities, according to a letter by Northville Public Schools Superintendent Mary Kay Gallagher. The resignation came not long after district parents rallied in late June in support of Snyder, whose contract was not automatically renewed by the Northville school board. The board voted in April, 6-1, to not automatically renew the contract. The board did not give a reason for the non-renewal. Principal Scott Snyder's contract was not automatically renewed for the 2012-13 school year.
Since the Northville school board's decision in April not to automatically renew the contract of Silver Springs Elementary School principal Scott Snyder, several parents have rallied behind him. At least 20 of those parents filled Northville's school board meeting Tuesday night to ask the board for answers about its decision and for more information about Snyder's future. In previous interviews, the board and principal Snyder have declined to discuss the specifics of what prompted the board's decision to reserve the right to end his contract. If something so serious happened that a highly respected and much admired leader in the district felt it necessary to tender his resignation, should there not be more disclosure at some level?
