Northville Girls Soccer Beats Salem

The Mustangs won the game, 1-0.

The Northville High School Mustangs varsity girls soccer beat Salem High School Thursday by a score of 1-0. The following summary of the game at Salem High School was submitted by Northville girls soccer coach Eric Brucker. (38 degrees; 25 mph wind) First Half                      5th minute: Junior Gabby Mencotti served a cross from the left touch line that floated in the wind over the Salem keeper’s head. Freshmen Kacey Cerretani rushed to the back post of the goal and poked in the game’s only goal.  Strong defense by Ashley Peper, Cassidy Ebach, Alexis Mencotti, Tara Pawloski, Sarah Castellano, and Morgan Gozdor preserved the win.  Sophomore Emily Maresh was in net for Northville to earn her first shutout of the year.  Northville moves …

15 Catholic Central Students Sign Letters of Intent

The students officially signed their letter to play their respective sports for a college.

Fifteen Detroit Catholic Central High School students made their college plans official Wednesday morning by signing their letters of intent to play their respective sports in college. Girls Soccer: Mustangs Go 2-0-1 at Saginaw Heritage Invitational

Northville faces Livonia Stevenson on Tuesday.

The Northville Mustangs girls soccer team went 2-0-1 over the weekend at the Saginaw Heritage Invitational. On Saturday, the Mustangs managed just a 1-1 tie with Saline, despite outshooting the Hornets 9-2. Sophomore Jamie Cheslik scored the Mustangs' lone goal at the 13-minute mark of the game after a throw-in by senior Jenni Borawski, driving the ball into the net from 22 yards out. Late in the second half, Saline was awarded a free kick from 45 yards out and during a battle to clear the ball, the Hornets drove the ball into the net to tie the game at the 47-minute mark. Northville coach Eric Brucker said in an email that a poor clearance out of the back cost the Mustangs a goal — and a shot at winning the game. The Mustangs regained …

Northville Girls Soccer Beats Walled Lake Western

The Mustangs won the game, 7-0.

In the Mustangs' varsity girls soccer home opener, the team beat Walled Lake Western High School by a score of 7-0. "We got to try a lot of little things, do some experimentation," coach Eric Brucker said of the game. "I'm pleased with our patience in the offensive end… we are finding the best option for quality scoring opportunities. Now we have to stay focused as Spring Break approaches, we play two very good teams in Canton and Plymouth next week." Highlights from the first half of the game, according to Brucker, include: Northville High School junior Gabbie Guibord's pass across the 18 yards box to Sophomore Megan Buckingham to fire a shot past the keeper. Novi Soccer Beats Northville 2-1

Novi High School's varsity soccer team came out on top versus the Northville Mustangs.

Novi High School came to Northville on Tuesday for a boy's varsity soccer match and left with another win added to their now 4-1 record. Gameplay was heated throughout the match with seven cards given by the game's end. The Wildcats got their first goal in the first half off of a penalty kick and got their second shortly after. Senior forward Aaron Quinley scored Novi's second goal. "It felt good, but I knew we had to play defense afterwards," Quinley said. Northville rallied a push late in the second half, scoring a goal in the last 10 minutes of play. The Mustangs kept the pressure on until the last second but were unsuccessful in tying the game.
