Woman Does Taxes, Discovers Her Identity Stolen

The following information was supplied by the City of Northville police.

A Northville woman contacted City of Northville police April 9 after she attempted to file her taxes and discovered someone had already done so in her name, according to a police report. The woman stated that she and her husband attempted to file their taxes with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) online using Turbo Tax, the report said. She was notified through email that the return was rejected because someone had already filed a return, according to the report. She contacted the IRS and Federal Trade Commission and determined that someone had filed a fraudulent tax return using her name and social security number, the report said. It's Tax Day! Post Office Closing Time, What to Do If You Need More Time

Attention tax day procrastinators! Here's what you need to know.

Today is income tax deadline day and all federal and state paper returns must be postmarked April 15. If you are planning on meeting the deadline in Northville, the Post Office closes at 5 p.m. If you need more time, the Novi Post Office is open until 7 p.m. And don't forget, according to the federal post office, if an item isn't turned in by closing time, it won't be postmarked for that day. Free Tax Preparation Available in Wayne County

The IRS tax filing deadline this year is April 15. Income-eligible Wayne County residents can have their taxes done for free.

Wayne County residents who haven't yet completed their income taxes for this year could be in luck. Wayne County residents who earned $50,000 or less last year are eligible to have their taxes prepared for free at Wyandotte's Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency. The free assistance is in partnership with Wayne County Asset Building Coalition. Single filers who made $50,000 are eligible, as are households whose combined incomes fall below the $50,000 threshold. $20.87M Tech Bond Goes Before Northville Voters on Nov. 6

Bond would update existing technology, district says.

Voters in the Northville school district will consider a $20.87 million bond proposal Nov. 6 to replace aging district technology, according to a news release from the district. The Northville Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution to put the issue on the November ballot at its July 9 meeting, the news release said. While nearly 90 percent of the bond funds are earmarked to address technology improvements, the proposal also includes funds for the purchase of replacement buses for the district’s aging fleet, the news release said. Tuesday is tax day this year! Here's where you can do taxes locally.

Today is Tax Day in the United States, and unless you're filing an extension, the deadline to file is Tuesday! If you need help finding a place to do your taxes, check our directory on Northville Patch. There also are a variety of free and paid tools available for filing taxes. You can download all necessary forms at irs.gov. Can't file in time? No worries, as the IRS offers extensions.

Area Post Offices Extend Hours for Tax Deadline

Patch's guide to post offices open late tonight for tax-filing purposes.

Tax Day 2011 has arrived. Even with a 3-day extension offered this year, there are always those who wait to the absolute last-minute to mail their returns. The deadline for having returns postmarked is midnight tonight. Not very many post offices will remain open late to accommodate late filers. The Plymouth Post Office, located at 860 Penniman Ave, will close at its normal time, 5:30 p.m. Here is a list of all United States Post Offices in the area that will remain open late tonight. Countdown to April 18: Last-Minute Tax Tips

Tax Day has been pushed to April 18th this year and Northville CPA Tamara Carlone has some tips for last-minute filers.

If you are thinking this is an error, here's good news: It's not. Tax Day is April 18this year since it took a while to get a new law passed and to get the correct forms made.
