Number of National Merit Students Doubles at Northville High School
Officials credit parents, teachers and students for the increase in high achievers.
The number of National Merit students at Northville High School has doubled since 2004 and tripled since 1991. Why have the numbers spiked so high? "I think it's multiple factors: our continued emphasis on academic rigor, clearly the support of Mom and Dad at home ... the caliber and discipline of students," said superintendent Leonard Rezmierski. According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation Web site, the program is "an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test."
