Northville Girls Soccer Beats South Lyon, South Lyon East

The Mustangs win both games by a score of 4-0.

The Northville High School Mustangs varsity girls soccer team beat South Lyon High School Tuesday by a score of 4-0. The following summary of the game was submitted by Northville girls soccer coach Eric Brucker. On Senior night, Northville picks up its 12th win of the season with a 4-0  shutout of South Lyon. Before the game, five seniors were recognized – Emily Bush, Cassidy Ebach, Kiki Hilmer, Alexis Mencotti, and Gabbie Guibord. First half 13th Minute: Junior Gabby Mencotti played a long ball out of the midfield to a streaking Emily Bush. Bush shielded the ball for the defender and fired an 18 yard shot. 23rd Minute: Gabby Mencotti gets her own goal on a 12 yard shot. Senior Gabby Guibord slotted a ball to Mencotti’s feet just inside …

Northville High School Student Makes 'Brightest and Best' List

Stephanie Hong was among more than 250 recipients of WXYZ-TV's annual honor.

Channel 7, WXYZ, recently honored more than 250 recipients of this year's "Brightest and Best" award – including one from the Northville School district – with a special luncheon at the station in Southfield. Among the winners for 2013, the 34rd year of program, was Stephanie Hong of Northville High School. The station teamed up with Gardner-White Furniture again this year to present the awards. Northville Ranks as 16th Best Public High School in State

Northville High School made it onto this year's list of best public high schools by Newsweek and The Daily Beast.

Northville High School made top spots among America's best public high schools in an annual ranking released last week by Newsweek and The Daily Beast. Out of the 82 Michigan public high schools that made the list, Northville ranked in sixteenth place. Northville High School, which was not included in last year's list, achieved 492nd place in its national ranking. This year's ranking highlights the best 2,000 public high schools in the nation, based on those that are most effective in turning out college-ready graduates, according to The Daily Beast. Our two grand children graduated from NHS and were very well prepared for college. The AP classes and tests that they took and passed, allowed them to begin college with many credits. Kudos to those teachers and administrators who worked to make this possible.   more ›

Newsweek Names Northville as Top Public High School in USA

The magazine's 2013 rankings came out last week.

For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 public high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. Northville Girls Soccer Defeats Saline

The Mustangs win the game, 1-0.

The Northville High School Mustangs varsity girls soccer team beat Saline High School Saturday by a score of 1-0. The following summary of the game was submitted by Northville girls soccer coach Eric Brucker. On Saturday, May 11, Northville played a tough non-conference game in Saline and was victorious by the score of 1-0. Second Half 47th minute: Junior Ashley Peper serves in a corner kick from the left side. Senior Emily Bush collects the cross with her feet and passes the ball into the near post for the game winner. Should Schools Stop Requiring Foreign Language Classes?

Currently, Northville High School requires the class of 2016 and beyond to take a foreign language for two years.

Hoping to free up more options for students when it comes to high school electives, the House Education Committee approved two bills in Lansing on Tuesday that would eliminate the foreign language requirement for graduation. Northville High School's current freshman class and those that will follow are required by state law to take two full credits or four semesters of a world language in order to graduate, said Assistant Principal Karin Pearson. However, sophomores and upper classmen do take world languages like French, German and Spanish at the high school to meet enrollment requirements from universities. World languages are also available at the middle schools, and students in kindergarten through fifth grade can take Spanish or French…

Northville Girls Soccer Loses to Salem, Novi

Salem and Novi high schools defeat the Mustangs, 1-0.

The Northville High School Mustangs varsity girls soccer lost to Salem High School at a home game Monday by a score of 1-0. The following summary of the game was submitted by Northville girls soccer coach Eric Brucker. (72 degrees; sunny) First Half 10th minute: After a scrum in the Northville box, a Salem midfielder fires a shot, sophomore Sarah Castellano steps in front of the shot and makes the save with her face. 14th minute: Salem is awarded a penalty kick after a player was tripped from behind.
