Bio:
After working as associate local editor for Plymouth-Canton Patch since August 2012 and then associate local editor for all of Michigan since January, I'm now the local editor for Northville Patch and Novi Patch.
I got to know Northville and Novi during my time working for the entire Michigan Patch region. I saw how important schools and local businesses are to the residents. I hope to learn more and serve both communities well as local editor.
If you see me around town, feel free to stop me and introduce yourself!
Background
I got my degree in Journalism and Near Eastern Studies from Wayne State University, where I was a part of the Journalism Institute for Media Diversity. I did more than study journalism at Wayne State; I practiced it. My internships, advisers and everything I learned are what brought me to where I am with Patch today.
Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for us to inject our beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that our beliefs are on the record will cause us to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.
Religious Beliefs
I am Muslim and I think faith is a personal journey.
Politics
I'm not registered with a political party, and I tend to decide on each issue separately. I support staying open and engaged with our political leaders.
Local Hot Button Issues
Northville is known for its downtown, packed with local businesses, where events are common year-round. I think people care deeply about preserving the area as a community center. Novi has a premier shopping district, which often attracts new businesses and developers.
Education is also important in both communities, and the schools are a top reason why people choose to live there.
