Fuel Mix-Up at Sheldon Speedway

At least one person needed to get $800 worth of car repairs after filling up at the gas station.

Drivers who stopped to fill up at the Speedway on Sheldon and Five Mile roads in Plymouth Township this week didn't get what they expected.

"The carrier who drops off the product at our facility accidentally put gasoline in diesel and diesel in gasoline," Speedway spokesperson Angela Graves said.

Cars with diesel fuel in gasoline engines will often stop running. According to Graves, this mix-up happened on Wednesday, when the pumps were closed for several hours until they were fixed.

However, according to a Northville Patch reader, there was a similar situation at this Speedway last week. She said she heard from her mechanic at Frank's Auto Reconditioning that people who filled up at the Speedway on June 12 needed to get repairs.

Frank, the owner of Frank's Auto Reconditioning in Plymouth, said one of his customers' vehicle conked out three to five miles away from the gas station.

"Since we didn't know what caused it, it was harder to diagnose," he said.

He said it cost a little over $800 to repair, which included a complete flush of the fuel system, removing the intake manifold and replacing the spark plugs.

According to a manager at the Speedway on Sheldon Road, the pumps were closed for a few hours last week. However, Graves said she is unsure whether what happened last week is the same as what happened Wednesday.

She said Speedway customers can call 1-800-643-1948 with any questions or problems.
