Northville Township's Cantoro Italian Market May Open This Fall

Market owner says the next steps are completing the parking lot and obtaining a certificate of occupancy from Northville Township.

Cantoro Italian Market co-owner John Fallone said in April that completing the parking lot is one of the last projects before the popular bakery and market opens in Northville Township.

Fast forward six months and that is still the case.

"This week we should have the parking lot almost finished," said Mario Fallone, co-owner of the business and John Fallone's father.

Although the interior is about 99 percent complete, he said, they are unable to stock shelves because they do not yet have a certificate of occupancy from the township. Getting the certificate will allow them to get into the store for tasks like stocking the shelves, which alone will take staff about a month to do, he said.

"We’re shooting for the end of October," Fallone said about when the market should open.

Cantoro Italian Market is one of metro Detroit's most popular bakeries, featuring fresh Italian breads each morning. The store's Livonia location has a deli and stocks popular wines, Italian pasta, vegetables and a large selection of olive oils, including the Fallone family brand.

Patch reader Paul Schulz said in a comment that he is a loyal shopper at the market.

"I have been going to Cantoro's my entire life. Great italian market. Most recently I was picking up some fresh ricotta for lasagna at the store on middlebelt in Livonia. Its hard to find good ricotta!!!" he wrote.

Cantoro Italian Market's Northville Township location is at 15550 Haggerty Road, just north of Five Mile Road.

"Can't wait - I can WALK to this one!" said Patch reader Dom D. in a comment.

The Northville location will have a few new offerings, John Fallone said, including a wine made from grapes right at the store, more variety of homemade pasta, cakes and pastries — including wedding cakes, gifts imported from Italy and a café.
