Fire Breaks Out at Northville Business
There was an electrical fire at the Water Wheel Centre on Sunday.
Firefighters put out an electrical fire at Spider 9, a Northville company that provides energy storage solutions, around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, according to CEO Glynne Townsend.
The Northville business, suite 105B in the Water Wheel Centre at 235 East Main St., filled with smoke when an auxiliary power supply for a computer overheated. No one was injured and there was no extensive damage from the fire, Townsend said.
"There was a lot more water damage than fire damage," he said.

Employees at Planet Fitness next door smelled the smoke and alerted the fire department, Townsend said. The firefighters evacuated the building and hosed down the area.
"The fire department had to bring the hazmat group to follow safety protocols," he said.

The equipment that overheated and caught fire was in a room with batteries nearby, which contain hazardous chemicals, Townsend said. The fire was safely extinguished.
Spider 9 and Planet Fitness, which filled with smoke from the fire, are safe and open for business.
"Now we’ve just been mopping up the water," he said.
