Man Arrested on Charges of Driving While Impaired

The following arrest information was supplied by the Northville Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Northville Township police arrested a man at 3:07 a.m. March 28 near the intersection of Five Mile and Northville roads on charges of operating a vehicle while impaired, according to a police report.

Plymouth Township police were advised to investigate a possible drunken driver in the area of Five Mile and Northville roads, the report said. Northville Township police checked the area and found the vehicle, a gray 2012 Ford Fusion, parked in the Six & Park party store parking lot without any headlights on, according to the report. The store was not open at that time in the morning and would not open for several hours, the report said.

The officer then saw the vehicle turn northbound onto Northville Road and then westbound onto Six Mile Road, according to the report.

The officer stopped the vehicle, and the driver said he pulled into the parking lot to make phone calls in order to find a place to stay the night, the report said. He said that he and his wife had been fighting and he did not want to go home, according to the report. He said he was at a gas station at Northville and Five Mile roads for a while where he made food and drink purchases, the report said.

The officer smelled the odor of intoxicants coming from within the vehicle, according to the report. The man said he had been bowling earlier in the evening and consumed about 4.5 beers, the report said.

The officer issued a preliminary breathalyzer test, which the man agreed to take, and had a result of 0.136, according to the report.

The man was arrested, his vehicle impounded and his driver's license confiscated and destroyed, the report said. He has an 8:30 a.m. hearing April 10 at 35th District Court.
