7 Candidates Seek Northville School Board Seat

The school board will choose a final candidate Nov. 12.

After Dec. 31, Northville Board of Education member Joseph Hige, Jr., will step down from his position.

The school board has searched for candidates and there are seven citizens who have applied for the position, according to an email from Superintendent Mary Kay Gallagher. 

They are:

  • Michael (Mickey) T. Barrett
  • Richard J. Corriveau
  • Scott Paul Frush
  • Roland Hwang
  • Ann B. Kalass
  • Joel M. Michalek
  • Raymond A. Reame
All of the candidates' interviews are open to the public and will be Tuesday in room 302 at the Board of Education Office, 501 West Main St.

The board will interview candidates in two groups in a small group interview setting, the email said. The interviews will start at 6:30 p.m. and take place in the following order: 

  • 6:30 - 7:50 p.m.:  Candidates Michalek, Corriveau, Hwang and Barrett
  • 8 to 9 p.m.:  Candidates Reame, Frush and Kalass

The top two candidates will be selected to move forward for a second interview at a special board meeting Nov. 12 from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. at Hillside Middle School. During the regularly scheduled board meeting to follow, the board will select a final candidate, according to Gallagher's email.

The final candidate will serve on the board from January through Dec. 31, 2014. The candidate may choose to run for election to the open four-year term beginning January 2015 in the next regular school election next year, the email said.
