Northville Girls Soccer Loses to Salem, Novi

Salem and Novi high schools defeat the Mustangs, 1-0.

The Northville High School Mustangs varsity girls soccer lost to Salem High School at a home game Monday by a score of 1-0.

The following summary of the game was submitted by Northville girls soccer coach Eric Brucker.

First Half

10th minute: After a scrum in the Northville box, a Salem midfielder fires a shot, sophomore Sarah Castellano steps in front of the shot and makes the save with her face.

14th minute: Salem is awarded a penalty kick after a player was tripped from behind. Senior keeper Kiki Hilmer makes a sprawling save to the left to keep the game at 0-0.

32nd minute: After a nice give and go at the top of the box, Hilmer makes an initial save but Salem’s Emma Tardiff collects the rebound and scores for Salem.

36th minute: Northville appeared to score on a corner kick as the Salem keeper fell backwards to make the save, no goal was awarded. 

Second Half

Northville picked up the pressure in the second half.

61st minute: Junior Gabby Mencotti gets behind Salem’s back line but her shot rings off the inside of the left post and deflects across the goal mouth and out of bounds.

70th minute: Senior Emily Bush gets behind Salem’s defense again on a breakaway but the Salem keeper was up to the challenge and makes the save. 

Northville moves to 10-2-2; Salem moves to 9-6-1.

Northville Mustangs Lose to Novi Wildcats

In the battle for the KLAA Central Division lead, Northville falls to Novi 0-1 Thursday at Novi High School.

First Half

1st minute: Novi kicks off and earns a throw-in on the left side 10 yards from the corner flag. A long throw-in is sent into the Northville goal mouth.

The ball skips off a couple players and is not cleared. The ball rolls to the back post where a Novi player taps it in. 

Both teams would generate chances but solid team defense and sound goalkeeper kept the teams scoreless for the remaining 79 minutes.  

Northville moves to 10-3-2; Novi moves to 9-1-2.

The next game is Saturday against Saline High School.
