Performer’s Edge Dance Company Celebrates National Dance Day

Performer's Edge Dance Company welcomed local dancers to enjoy free dance classes on National Dance Day.

Performer’s Edge Dance Company of Northville celebrated National Dance Day by offering free dance classes to those between the ages of eight and eighteen on July 27.

Located in Suite 190 at 133 West Main St., the dance studio’s instructors taught choreography from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to all of those who attended this fun event.

Nicole Cicala, PEDC’s owner and artistic director, said, “National Dance Day is a national day where studios offer classes and allow kids to take dance.”

Dancers who spent the afternoon at the Downtown Northville studio got the chance to participate in many dance classes, including jazz and hip-hop, as well as celebrate Amy Yakima’s success so far in the “So You Think You Can Dance” competition.

Amy Yakima is actually from the Northville area, and so what we wanted to do is bring kids together, have a bunch of classes, record a video, and submit it to ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’” said Cicala.

Abby Widlak, a PEDC dancer, said, "I came to support my friend, Amy, and I love to dance.  It's kind of my life, and I practically live here at the studio."

Although dancers from PEDC attended the event, dancers from other local studios participated as well.  With two rooms already full of dancers at 11 a.m., Cicala expected there would be between 50 and 100 dancers visiting the studio throughout the afternoon.
