Cantoro Italian Market co-owner Mario Fallone said in September the next step for the Northville location is completing the store's parking lot.

"We’re shooting for the end of October," Fallone said about when the market should open in Northville on Haggerty Road just north of Five Mile Road.

However, there may be more delays. The market's site plan is going before the Northville Township's planning commission Tuesday. The commission will decide to approve, postpone, or deny a plan for additional parking, at its 7:30 p.m. meeting at Township Hall, 44405 Six Mile Road.

The market is behind two years from its original plans to open. Last year's delays were also about parking. The property owners proposed a zoning change, but the planning commission unanimously voted to withhold sending the proposal to the Board of Trustees until a new site plan proposal was submitted and reviewed.

The market is one of metro Detroit's most popular bakeries, featuring fresh Italian breads each morning. The store's Livonia location has a deli and stocks popular wines, Italian pasta, vegetables and a large selection of olive oils, including the Fallone family brand.

Loyal customers have been anxiously waiting for the opening.

How long are you willing to wait for the market's opening? Post a comment below.

They also offer a nice selection of Italian cheeses. I'm out of Cacio de Roma right now - will you PLEASE OPEN?!

I remember the excitement when I saw the sign go up that my favorite Italian Market was opening a new location a few blocks from my house. My excitement has waned a bit in the past 4+ years. How in the world are they still deciding on a parking plan after all these years ? Never seen a project run like this in my life. I love the place but for God's sakes, since I'm not fighting the parking at the Middlebelt location on the weekends, every week the new store isn't open is a week I'm not spending my money there.

The problem is they are Italian. If they were a "favored" group they would already be opened!

Aw, Johnny, do you think so? :-( I drove by last week and saw some big trucks there unloading! So it can't be long now! Can it?
Johnny November 04, 2013 at 07:14 AM
Denise, it seems very strange that these people are two years over their projected opening date. But thanks for the reply about the trucks. Let's hope there was some product being delivered!

I hear you Johnny! Actually I heard through the grapevine that they were paying for the place as they went along, which makes sense of the delays. I have no idea if that's true, however.

small township sees $$$$$$. They are out to sqeeezzzzzee every penny out of this projecr. How embarring,is this a another DETROIT PAY TO PLAY? It is been Smelling that way for many months. The Livonia stores parking is small and it works.
Art Neilson November 12, 2013 at 02:17 PM
Eeh John, I feel the same way you do. The cost overruns must be outrages. I want to smell bread baking in the oven, not extra asphalt. The planning comm. will be the first to get they' re grubby hands on that bread, cheese,& WINE. THEY SHOULD PAY DOUBLE.

Really Art, is there something I should know about this re: planning? Their parking lot in Livonia really doesn't work...I went on a weekend one time (against my best judgement) and had to park next door, where there are towing signs everywhere! So it seems to be a problem since they have the signs.
