Cantoro Market to Seek Approval for Additional Parking

Northville Township's planning commission will review a site plan amendment Tuesday.

Cantoro Italian Market co-owner Mario Fallone said in September the next step for the Northville location is completing the store's parking lot.

"We’re shooting for the end of October," Fallone said about when the market should open in Northville on Haggerty Road just north of Five Mile Road.

However, there may be more delays. The market's site plan is going before the Northville Township's planning commission Tuesday. The commission will decide to approve, postpone, or deny a plan for additional parking, at its 7:30 p.m. meeting at Township Hall, 44405 Six Mile Road.

The market is behind two years from its original plans to open. Last year's delays were also about parking. The property owners proposed a zoning change, but the planning commission unanimously voted to withhold sending the proposal to the Board of Trustees until a new site plan proposal was submitted and reviewed.

The market is one of metro Detroit's most popular bakeries, featuring fresh Italian breads each morning. The store's Livonia location has a deli and stocks popular wines, Italian pasta, vegetables and a large selection of olive oils, including the Fallone family brand.

Loyal customers have been anxiously waiting for the opening.
